The night before Southborough students’ first day of the public school year, the Southborough Library and Southborough Youth & Family Services will hold a discussion that may be especially relevant to some of their parents.
The “Shelf Help” community book discussion group will discuss learnings from the book Breaking Free of Child Anxiety & OCD: A Scientifically Proven Program for Parents by Dr. Eli R. Lebowitz. But you don’t need to have read the book to participate.
The sign up page for the meeting describes:
This research-based guide offers practical tools for supporting children with anxiety and OCD and introduces strategies that reduce stress for the whole family just in time for the start of school!
If you are interested in the topic, sign up soon, since leading up to the talk, registered participants will also receive “a range of related resources—including podcasts, articles, and videos—to help engage with the topic from multiple angles.”
As I previously posted, the rebooted discussion group is open to anyone who wants to participate — even those who haven’t read the featured book. (Of course, those interested in reading it are encouraged to do so. The library and SYFS staff members will be happy to help you get your hands on a copy.)
The discussion on Tuesday, August 26th will take at the Library from 7:00 – 8:00 pm.
Departing from the prior format for the group, a new topic will now be featured each month (sometimes revolving around a novel with relevant themes, rather than a non-fiction self-help book). Future meetings will also take place on Tuesdays from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, but not always in person:
- September 30th at the Library — Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Hg (a novel)
- October 28th at the Library — Where to Draw the Line: How to Set Healthy Boundaries Every Day by Anne Katherine, M.A.
- November 25 over zoom — A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman (a novel)
