For years, kids interested in joining Southborough Cub Scouts had to choose between multiple packs. (In fact, once upon a time the Town had three.)1

Cubmasters have announced their decision to merge the two remaining packs and are inviting families to join them.

Memorial Day 2023 parade Pack 1The merger means all the Cub Scouts will be marching together, with their friends, under the unified Pack 1 flag. This also allows leaders and parents to pool their volunteer efforts for organizing fun.

Pack leaders asked me to share their news and spread the word about how families with K–5 boys and girls can learn more about the program.

There are two upcoming dates you may want to mark on your calendars:

Cub Scout Info Session - Sept 2023 from Pack 1 Facebook postInfo Session — Sunday, September 7th
1:00 – 3:00 pm at Finn School Pavilion (behind the school by the playground)

The announcement invites the public to explore Cub Scouts at the special event:

Interested in joining Cub Scouts? Pack 1 is open to both boys and girls, and you can come with your kiddo and find out more about what we do, see photos and examples of our activities, and meet some of the Cub Scouts and Leaders.

Plus, their flyer promotes trying out Cub Scouts by attending their first pack meeting of the season — Monday, September 8th, 6:00 PM at Pilgrim Church, 15 Common St.

Alternatively, you can reach out to pack leaders to learn more here. (You can also use that link to start the registration process if you don’t need to learn more.)

Cub Scout Flyer - Pack 1For those not familiar with the types of fun Cub Scouts can expect, their flyer promotes:

Southborough Cub Scouts Update and Joining Info

We are excited to announce that Cub Scout Pack 926 and Pack 1 in Southborough have made the important decision to merge our organizations into a single, unified pack under Pack 1. This thoughtful decision was reached after careful consideration of how we can best serve the boys and girls of our community and strengthen the scouting experience for all involved.

Benefits of Our Unified Approach

Unlike neighboring communities with multiple schools serving the same grade levels, our children form friendships and connections across the entire town from their earliest school days. However, our previous structure of having two separate Cub Scout packs sometimes meant that classmates and friends were divided in their scouting activities.

By merging Pack 926 and Pack 1, we are aligning our scouting structure with the natural social environment of our community. Boys and girls who spend their school days together now can continue these important friendships and connections through their scouting journey as well. This will help support the development of stronger bonds and a more integrated community experience for our scouts.

Strengthening an Already Strong Program

Southborough has long had a robust and vibrant Scout program. This merger represents an enhancement of our existing strengths. By combining our resources, volunteer power, and institutional knowledge, we will be able to offer more diverse and enriching activities and outings and coordinate more effectively with the community through our existing efforts such as our annual Scouting for Food Drive, Pinewood Derby, and Wreath Sales.
