This Saturday is the third annual “Pollination Potluck Picnic”. The event is put on by Southborough’s Open Space Preservation Commission (OSPC) and Southborough Open Land Foundation (SOLF).
The public is invited to join them and the MetroWest Conservation Alliance’s Bumble Bee Project for an outdoor potluck lunch that celebrates efforts to protect native pollinators.
Registration is required (here) to attend the free event. And participants are encouraged to bring a dish to share at the picnic.
The event will be held at the “Whit Beals Biodiversity Through Pollination Garden” at SOLF’s Beals Preserve. (See my edited map right.) It will take place from 11:00 am – to 1:00 pm on September 20th.
Here is more information from the announcement:
Join other enthusiasts interested in planting the specific native plants that support pollinators at-risk, following the guidelines provided by Dr. Robert Gegear’s research.
Come and mingle, share your successes and challenges, ask questions, enjoy a meal, and join Freddie Gillespie, Chair of the OSPC for a tour of the Whit Beals Biodiversity Through Pollination Garden which was planted in 2022.
See firsthand how using the plants on Dr. Robert Gegear’s researched plant list can create beautiful gardens while also building functional pollination systems to preserve biodiversity. Walk through the garden and hear about the various challenges encountered and the excitement of success as Dr. Gegear’s research has documented increased populations of some of our most at-risk pollinators.
The garden is dedicated to the memory of Whitney Beals, who passed away in September 2023. He was a long-term member of the SOLF Board and past President and passionate about the Pollination Preservation Garden which he helped establish. The event is free, but registration is required.
All are welcome to this celebration and please share the invitation in your own networks.
For the Picnic you are invited to bring a dish to share and bring a friend who loves pollinators! More info in the Eventbrite link.
