Here are my highlights from Algonquin varsity sports competitions last week and the schedule for this week.
Algonquin varsity sports had another week of racking up more losses than wins.
ARHS Field Hockey was the only team that improved its record last week. It now stands at 4-3 after two wins over Leominster (1-0) and Grafton (4-0), followed by a loss to Shrewsbury (2-1).
Boy Soccer is now 2-2-2 after adding its first two season losses (1-0 to Wachusett and 5-1 to Natick) but beating Grafton 1-0 in between. Girls Soccer is 1-4-2 after adding a 4-0 loss to Wachusett followed by a 2-0 win over Grafton.
Titans Football is 0-2 after getting shutout 22-0 by Marlborough last Friday.
Girls Volleyball extended its losing streak, adding shutout losses to Wachusett and Shrewsbury last week. Their record is now 1-6.
Boys Golf also added more losses to its record – but it’s unclear how many. Heading into last week, the team’s record was 2-4. On Tuesday, they played a squeaker against Grafton that ARHS and other sources recorded as a 191-190 loss. But the Telegram is showing it as a 190-191 win for ARHS thanks to and “even-par 35” by Connor Flaherty. That was followed by losses the next two days to Hopkinton and Nashoba.
Boys and Girls Cross Country teams each lost their first meet of the season to Wachusett.
