[It’s such a beautiful fall day. Its the kind of weather I’m hoping we’ll experience a week from Monday when the town celebrates Heritage Day! As we get closer to the event, I’m continuing to share details about festivities the community can enjoy or participate in on Monday, October 13th.]

On Heritage Day, The Friends of the Southborough Library will hold our biggest annual fundraiser — our Book Sale and Bake Sale.1

I’m posting details on how the community can support the library by donating books and/or baked goods, volunteering their help, or simply shopping the sale.

Proceeds from the Friends’ fundraisers are used to support Library resources and programs not covered by the regular budget. That includes most of the Library’s discount passes to museums and venues, many children’s programs throughout the year, and programs for adults and young adults.

Readers who want to clear out some old books (and make room for buying new ones) or donate baked goods, or lend a hand, can scroll down for related details.

Book and Bake Sale Details

The sale will take place from 10:00 am –3:00 pm. The event will be held in the Library parking lot, right across from the main field.

As usual, the Friends will offer one free book per child.

Friends of the Library Book SaleAs always, there will be a large selection of fiction and non-fiction hardcover and paperback books for adults, children, and young adults. Plus, you can find gently used CDs and DVDs.

Updated price listIf you purchased a Friends’ tote in the past, be sure to bring it with you for a stuff-a-bag deal!

(See the price list right for details. Note: If you don’t have cash or check, there is an upcharge to cover the processing fee for purchases through PayPal.)

Thanks to generous bakers, you can also usually find a great variety of muffins, quick breads, cookies, brownies, bars, and more.

Donating Books/Materials

For people who want to donate books or other items for our sale:

  • Book Donations instructionsWhat we can/can’t accept:
    • We can’t accept magazines, textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias, Bibles, CDs, or VHS tapes.
    • Books must be in good, usable condition. Damaged books cannot and will not be accepted.
    • We can also accept gently used DVDs and video console games
  • How to donate:
    • Donations are limited to 50 books OR 3 boxes of book per visit per week.
    • Only donate when the library is open. Please leave donations downstairs on the designated donations table. (The Library opens at 10:00 am Monday – Saturday. It closes at 5:00 pm on Monday, Friday, and Saturday. It stays open until 9:00 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.)
    • Do not donate in either of the two outdoor book drops.
Lending a Hand

We could use volunteers to help out before, during, and after the sale. (We especially need help with setup beginning at 9:00 am. As an extra incentive, volunteers get first dibs on the books for sale! We’ll also need help bringing books and tables back in at 3:00 pm.)

Anyone who wants to volunteer for a shift sometime that day, please email djmtremblay@verizon.net.

Donating Baked Goods

If you plan to contribute something to the bake sale please email friendsofsouthboroughlib@gmail.com, so we can keep track of what to expect. (And what we still need to bake!)

You can drop off your goodies either on Saturday before 5:00 pm, or in the morning, starting at 9:00 am. Please include a label telling us what you’ve baked.

  1. Full disclosure: I’m the President of The Friends of the Southborough Library. (Hope to see you at our sale!)
