Here are my highlights from Algonquin varsity sports competitions last week and the schedule for this week.
Algonquin Cross Country teams are now 2-1 for the season after beating Shrewsbury last week. The Boys won 28-29, and the Girls 17-40.
Field Hockey improved their record last week, but slipped in the Power Rankings. The Titans beat Leominster 1-0 and Grafton 4-0. But they also added a 2-0 loss to Natick. The team is now 7-5-2, and ranked #17 in Division 1.
Girls Volleyball had another week of losses, updating their record to 2-12. They lost to Westborough, Wachusett, and Shrewsbury. They’re currently ranked #36 for D1.
Girls Soccer lost to Wachusett 1-0, and tied Grafton 0-0. That updates their record to 1-6-5. They moved up to #27 in the D1 rankings. Boys Soccer added two more losses. They were beaten 2-1 by both Wachusett and Grafton. They slipped down to #36 for the D1 rankings.
Boys Golf lost to both Grafton and Nashoba last week.
On the other side of record column, the school just flipped Golf’s posted scores from the September 16th game against Grafton from a one point loss to a win. (The Telegram had correctly listed it, but I assumed ARHS Athletics knew better, especially since the Telegram hasn’t captured all of the team’s games this fall.) ARHS also posted a missing win from the Golf team’s October 3rd game against Marlborough. Their updated record is now 5-11. (That’s still dismal, but better than 3-12.)
Football suffered its 5th straight loss. Leominster beat them 25-9.
