The Southborough Library is bringing back a literacy program introduced last spring spring for beginner readers ages 5 years and older. The program partner kids with teen “Buddies” for six weeks, to encourage early readers.
The Library promotes the opportunity for kids to register to be part of the program, and is also looking for more kids in grades 6-12 to help out.
This event is in addition to the frequent “Read to a Dog” opportunities the Library hosts. But obviously, while the trained dogs are attentive, they don’t really understand what kids are reading to them. And they can’t help when kids are stumbling over words they don’t know.
The program with human buddies will meet weekly on Monday afternoons from 3:30 – 4:30 pm in the Children’s Room from from October 20th to December 15th. Parents/guardians are required to stay in the library for the program. And participants are asked to commit to attending all 9 events.
