New “Meditations for the Nations” series starting Wednesday afternoon

St. Mark's Church is welcoming those troubled by "division, unrest, and fear in our country" to meditate for "healing through spiritual means". 30 minute drop-in events will take place twice monthly.

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church asked me to share a community invitation to join them for a new free series launched by their interim priest. Starting next week, the church will hold a bi-monthly session on Wednesday afternoons.

The intent is to help people cope with issues in the wider world that may feel overwhelming.

Meditations for the Nations flyerThe “Meditations for the Nations” program will take place on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month, starting November 4th.

The drop-in program will run from 4:30 – 5:00 pm. No meditation experience is necessary, and you don’t need to be a member of the parish to participate.

The flyer explains:

In this time of division, unrest, and fear in our country, let us intentionally invite God into the intractable. Let us envision the healing of all nations and all of creation. We do not ask for particular political outcomes, we seek God’s outcome, which is beyond our knowing.

“For you alone, O Lord, make me lie down in safety.” – Psalm 4:8b . . .

Sometimes challenges are beyond human capacity. Sometimes what is wrong has a spiritual dimension and we need to address its healing through spiritual means. Let us gather with open hearts and shine forth, as prisms, Christ’s healing love to a broken world. Being in community magnifies the light.

The 30 minute program will include a ten minute welcome with introductions and “sharing of concerns”. That will be followed by 10 minutes of guided meditation, then 10 minutes of silent meditation.

The series will be held in the church’s Parish Hall at 27 Main Street. Parking is behind the hall. Participants are asked to enter through the kitchen door.

Dates this fall are November 5th & 19th and December 3rd & 17th.
