The Northborough Education Foundation is raffling off a reason that at least one NSBORO student will be even more excited than usual if school is cancelled this year.

One lucky winner will get to record the first “Snow Day” message sent out to the Northborough-Southborough Public Schools community.

The deadline to enter is this Tuesday.

NEF promotes:

Winter is coming! Want to be the hero of your school? Purchase tickets for our Snow Day Raffle for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to announce a snow day AND benefit the Northborough Education Foundation! . . .

The recording can be of the winning student, the student’s family, or even the whole student’s class, so have fun with it!

For those wondering what happens if there is no Snow Day this year. . . NEF promises that if that happens, they’ll “find another fun announcement for the winner.”

The Snow Day raffle is a fundraiser for NEF, which provides grants to Northborough schools, including Algonquin Regional High School. (Scroll down for more about that.)

The online raffle tickets are $10 each or 3 for $20. You can buy those and enter the drawing through 5:00 pm on November 18th.

The pre-recorded message will need to be approved by NEF and NSBORO’s Superintendent. For more details, and the link to enter, click here.

The funds raised by NEF are used to cover one-time grants for:

projects which enhance the core and supplemental parts of the curriculum, support new educational paradigms and result in richer learning experiences for our students.

They are mainly awarded to the Northborough public K-12 schools (though sometimes relevant programs/resources at the Northborough Library are awarded).

For the 2025 grants, two were awarded for Algonquin projects:

Exploring New Technology to Promote Statistical Understanding – ARHS – Karla Reynolds

This grant will provide the classroom with a set of NumWorks calculators to enhance the Statistics CP course. With these intuitive tools, students will be able to explore data visualization, probability, and statistical inference more deeply, while preparing for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and AP exams. The project will pilot with this initial CP class and has the potential to expand across the math department.

Preserving Our Digital Resources – ARHS – Brian Calnan

This grant will provide new Blu-Ray players with HDMI connections so teachers can continue using the extensive library of DVDs and digital resources they’ve built over the years. These tools bring history, science, literature, and culture to life for students and ensure that valuable teaching materials remain accessible as classroom technology evolves. Nearly all 1,200 Algonquin students stand to benefit from this project.
