I have more Early Thanksgiving news. Next week, the public is invited to again join Neighbors for Peace at a Thanksgiving inspired gathering. But don’t expect a full Thanksgiving meal.
Organizers invite the community to share “potluck style ‘light refreshments'”.
This year’s “interfaith” event will take place at Pilgrim Church (15 Common Street).
On Monday, November 24th at 7:00 pm, the church will host a service to give Thanks:
The Interfaith Service will include readings, prayers and music from many religious traditions and includes participation from members of the Muslim, Jewish, Church of Jesus Christ, Sikh, Protestant and Catholic faiths. All are welcome!
I’m told the event will also include gospel singer David Joyner, who will sing acapella versions of spiritual songs.
The reception with refreshments/desserts will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Attendees are also encouraged to bring items to donate to the Southborough Food Pantry. (You can look for an updated needs list here.)
No RSVP is required to join the service or festivities.
An announcement for the event reminds that Neighbors for Peace was founded eight years ago when Muslim and Christian neighbors Dr. Safdar Medina and Reverend Phil Labelle (formerly of St. Mark’s Church) decided to “discuss ways to build bridges rather than erect walls due to the divisive rhetoric in our country.” The group’s continued “desire” is to:
bring together residents of Southborough and neighboring communities to promote peace and the respect and dignity of all people. We accomplish this work through peace vigils, community social events, service projects, educational opportunities, and speaking for peace and understanding.
