The week in sports

Algonquin Football ended on a high note at last week’s Turkey Bowl. And I learned about one more fall event that a Titan competed in recently.

Gonk Football didn’t make this year’s playoffs, but they had a great Thanksgiving Day. The Titans capped their season with a 34-14 win over the Rangers at Westborough. The Telegram recapped:

Gavin Butterfield recorded a pick-six and a rushing touchdown, and Ben Bertonazzi added two rushing scores to propel the visiting Titans (4-7) past the Rangers (1-10). Westborough’s Ryan Ferrecchia amassed a touchdown catch from Noah Pierre-Louis and a rushing touchdown. Ben Butterfield contributed a rushing score.

The win improved ARHS’ record to 4-7. You can find more game stats here. Or you can watch the game (with commentary) via the Northborough Media Connection YouTube channel here.

Algonquin Cross Country was able to send one runner to compete at the Northeast Regionals in NY (the NXR sponsored by Nike) the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Junior Stephen Green came in #108 out of 274 runners.

This week is tryout week for ARHS winter sports. Look for scrimmages and competitions to start kicking off next week.
