If Christmas festivities all around have you feeling down, you may want to attend the annual “Blue Christmas” service next week.
This time of year, I post a lot about Christmas celebrations and fun. But for some people, the season brings more sorrow than joy. That’s especially true if you’ve suffered a recent loss or are dealing with a difficult situation.
St. Mark’s Church and Pilgrim Church are holding their joint annual Blue Christmas service for folks who might find the holidays a challenge.
In past years, organizers explained that the “quiet service of prayers, readings and candles allows a chance to find solace as we enter the Twelve Days of Christmas.”
St. Mark’s Church again promotes:
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” right? Not always. For many the season of Christmas reminds them of losses, loneliness, and grief. The parent who died on December 30 years ago, the layoff right after Christmas last year, having no family. The fact that everyone else is singing “fa la la la la,” only highlights their own sorrow.
Yet Jesus has words of comfort for you too! . . .
This is a time to acknowledge our grief and lift it up before God. To be assured that you, too, are precious and not alone. To find the light in the darkness. Join us for this service, hosted together with Pilgrim Church.
This year’s service will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 7:00 pm at St. Mark’s Church, 27 Main Street. It is open to all.
