Algonquin winter sports is off to a stellar start.
On Friday, four Titans teams kicked off the winter season with wins.
Swimming teams hosted a meet against Nashoba. The Titans Girls won 100-74 and the Boys 99-54. A recap from the Telegram listed the following multi-event ARHS winners:
- Elizabeth Walsh (200 freestyle, 100 backstroke)
- Mina Chung (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke)
- Max Achkinazi (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle)
- Jonathan Ribeiro (200 individual medley, 100 backstroke)
- Simon Linden (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle)
In Basketball, the Girls won the home opener against Westborough 53–44. The Boys traveled to beat the Rangers 81-61. The Community Advocate (CA) covered the boys’ win:
“Play fast, keep our foot on the gas.”
That’s how senior captain Dylan Poirier described Algonquin basketball’s play style. In their first game of the season, the Titans pulled ahead and never looked back, speeding past rival Westborough, 81-61, on Friday to start the year strong.

On Saturday, it was the Ice Hockey teams’ turn. The Titan Girls beat Longmeadow 6-1 in their home opener, and Boys Hockey traveled to beat Brookline 2-0.
The CA covered the co-op girls team’s win, highlighting a hat trick by an AMSA freshman-member of the team.
This week, the Boys will play in the annual tourney with Marlborough, Westborough and Wachusett. Gonk will be hoping to bring home the Borough’s Cup, a trophy they last won seven years ago. The first round is Wednesday, and the championship (and consolation game) this Saturday.
Not all of ARHS’ teams started off the season on as high a note. Boys Wrestling competed with four other schools at a meet hosted by Saint John’s on Saturday. The team didn’t post its results, but two teams posted about their wins over ARHS (St. John’s 66-16 and Holliston 70-12).
Now, here are the ARHS varsity games on tap for this week1:
