One month ago, the Southborough Historical Society held what was originally promoted as a Grand Opening for the new Southborough History and Arts Center. The event morphed into a temporary preview (including an Arts & Crafts Fair for holiday shopping that day).
Now, SHS is again promoting a Grand Opening. This time, registration and a fee are required to attend a planned “Four Artists Gallery Talk and Reception”.
The event is promoted for Saturday, January 17th, 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
[Editor’s Note: There may be some issues with that plan, as they have yet to receive a Certificate of Occupancy for the building. Look for those details in a separate post tomorrow.]
For those not familiar, the center is in the newly restored Fayville Hall at 42 Central Street. (Read more about that here.)
On New Years Day, SHS President Michael Weishan issued an email with the announcement that described:
This special evening will feature the works of some of Southborough’s most notable artists — Joe Landry, Lucia and Warren Prosperi, and Sigrid Knemeyer. Over hors d’oeuvres and bubbles, guests will have the chance to explore their art, hear the stories behind their inspiration, and celebrate our community’s creative spirit. Tickets go on sale today and are expected to sell out quickly for this gala opening.
The December 6th temporary opening of the center had included a preview of the exhibit. Below are some of the pictures I took at that event:
You can purchase tickets to the talk for $35 each (or $30 less for members) here.
The email also promoted other programs the community can sign up for at the SHAC. Looking at the website on the calendar, six programs are planned for January alone, including one the following afternoon.
The emailed announcement promoted that the classes and lectures cover “topics as diverse as the history of Lost Southborough, Learn to Draw!, and a Master Class on Storytelling.”
Events scheduled for this month are:
- Making Things Grow Indoors: Terrariums — Sunday, January 18, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
- Learning to See: The Art of the Lens — 6 week class beginning Tuesday, January 20, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
