Call for high school students to submit short films for showcase by Feb 15

Students from Southborough are among those eligible for the showcase this spring. The event will also feature a professional filmmaker from Southborough.

This spring, an “award-winning Southboro filmmaker” and her co-producer will be featured at “An Evening of Short Films”.

That event will also feature a regional showcase of selected (very) short films produced by high school students. Organizers asked me to help promote the opportunity to students who live in Southborough.

The “Emerging Voices” showcase will include a screening of “curated” selections from the submitted films.

Each film must be “2–8 minutes in length” and made by “a current Metrowest area High School student”. Southborough is one of the 13 towns listed as eligible.

The deadline to submit is Sunday, February 15th. You can find the application form here.

The May 7th event will also include the premiere of the short film “Exit”, co-produced and directed by Southborough resident Karin Trachtenberg.

I’ve previously written about Trachtenberg as an actress and playwright. Her film “Exit” is produced under “Third Act Productions”, newly formed with partner Julia Trueblood.

The film screening will be followed by a Q&A with Trachtenberg and Trueblood. The event registration page touts their prior film collaborations:

Trachtenberg and Trueblood’s first two short films—Three AM and Pumpkin Pie—have screened at more than 30 film festivals across New England and the U.S., earning 17 awards. Their work centers on bold, character-driven stories that amplify women’s voices.

You can learn more about their films (including trailers and a list of awards), on Trachtenberg’s website here.

The event and showcase opportunity are sponsored by Middlesex Savings Bank and grant awards from Southborough Cultural Arts Council and four other local agencies of the Mass Cultural Council.
