Saturday evening, the downtown art studio will hold another art reception. The event will feature paintings by Southborough native Kassandra Hostage.

Hostage has an additional link to our town beyond growing up here (and attending Algonquin). She also teaches art to students with severe special needs in Southborough.

The gallery promotes the exhibit “Small Things”:

Kassandra uses colors to explore her emotions in bold and beautiful ways.

We can not wait to share her stunning art with you. Please join us for sips and apps while you gaze upon the art.

The gallery also describes:

Her artwork leans into the abstract and she seeks to romanticize the essence of life through color and sculpted paint.

In early December, Hostage promoted the coming show on Facebook with several photos that included her posing with her art, more examples of her painting, and some writings.

You can check out more the photos and what she had to say about her show in the post below:

One of the pics may reveal the sentiment behind the title she chose for her exhibition. The photo is a zoomed in shot of a printed statement:

DO SMALL THINGS

WITH GREAT LOVE.

More recently, Hostage sat down with the LightsOut Collective’s LOC’d In podcast. The video’s promo describes her as:

a creative individual who excels in multiple fields — including painting, teaching, acting, modeling, and more.

In the interview, the host (Matt) asked Hostage which creative outlet is her favorite. She responded:

I don’t think I have a favorite. I think they’re all very different in their own ways. You know, I think if I were to choose one long term to pursue for the rest of my life, it would always be painting. I’m an artist first. . . everything I do that branches off of that has to do with art, too

Hostage’s exhibit isn’t just a one night event. The work will be on display through Friday, February 27th at 10:30 pm. (The hours aren’t posted for when the public can drop in during the exhibition’s run. I reached out and will update this post when I get an answer.)
