SPD: Fatal Car Crash on Rte 9

Some readers may be aware that a section of Route 9 East (east of Oak Hill Road) was temporarily blocked off early this morning. The Southborough Police Department has now issued a press release about a car crash on Route 9 that resulted in the death of one of the drivers.

Here is the statement:

The Southborough Police Department responded Friday morning to a fatal motor vehicle crash on Route 9.

On Friday, Feb. 20, at about 2:51 a.m., the Southborough Police and Fire Departments responded to Turnpike Road (Route 9 East) after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a serious motor vehicle crash.

First responders arrived to find a two-vehicle crash.

One of the drivers, a 37-year-old woman from Leominster, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver, a 23-year-old woman from Bolton, was transported by Southborough Fire to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

The crash is being actively investigated by the Southborough Police Department, along with members of the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Crash Reconstruction Team and the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.

Further inquiries should be directed to the Worcester County DA’s Office.
