Storm Warning & No School: February 23, 2026

Above: Brace for extreme weather beginning overnight. (image from NWS)

By now, everyone should be aware of the 18-24″ of snow headed our way starting tonight, Sunday, February, 22nd.

That’s combined with high winds that will likely mean some power outages. And since the storm is hitting a huge region, restoration times could be slow.

Unsurprisingly, public schools will be closed on Monday.1 That means the Southborough Senior Center will be as well. The Southborough Library will be closed and I would expect Town offices to be working remotely (as long as they have internet!)

The National Weather Service has mapped Southborough in a zone of extreme impact. But their weather chart shows that we are forecast to get up to 48mph gusts of wind, not the 60-70mph ‘destructive” winds that some areas will see. The most severe impacts are expected tomorrow morning between 4:00 am and noon.

Below are more graphics from the National Weather Service, followed by local reminders.

adopt a hydrant

This winter, the Southborough Fire Department has been asking the public to participate in its “Adopt a Fire Hydrant” program.

To help them help you in case of a fire, residents are asked to note the hydrants near them, and help clear any that get covered/blocked by snow when the streets are plowed. (And don’t forget to make sure your house vents also remain clear.)

If you need to check on or report power outages, the National Grid map is here.

To see if the Town issues any news on roads closed due to downed lines, etc, you can check out the following Town Facebook pages:

The DPW is reminding folks that there is no overnight parking or parking during storms.

After the last storm, the DPW also posted an explainer on the impact that temperatures have on road conditions (and therefore how DPW addresses the situation). You can read about that here.

  1. As of this school cancellation, the last day of Northborough-Southborough Schools moves to Wednesday, June 24th.
