This week, three Algonquin varsity teams entered state playoffs. Only two of them are moving on to the next round. (And another team debuts in the tourneys tonight.)
#23 Algonquin Boys Hockey challenged #10 King Philip Regional in the Division 2 Round of 32 at Foxboro Ice Arena. For the second time this winter, King Phillip shut the Titans out. This time, the loss was 0-4.
#25 Gonk Boy’s Basketball hosted #40 Boston Latin in the MIAA Division 1 prelim round. According to a post by photographer Jeff Slovin the Boys “rallied back to overcome a huge early deficit and defeat Boston Latin 50-41.”
Tonight, Friday, February 27th, the Titans go up against #8 Malden Catholic in the Round of 32. That’s 6:00 pm at Malden Catholic. (Tickets aren’t posted yet, but you can look for them here.)
As I previously posted, Girls Basketball bypassed the prelims. They are also scheduled to play tonight. (And their tickets are already posted.) The D1 Round of 32 pits the #23 Titans against #10 Billerica Memorial. That’s at 7:00 pm in Billerica.
Unsurprisingly, #3 ARHS Girls Hockey won their D1 Round of 32 game against #30 Westford Academy last night.
The Telegram recapped the 3-0 win:
Madelyn Glynn had two goals, including the 100th point of her career, and Addy Cagan posted the shutout with 19 saves. . . Anna Preciado also had a goal and assist for Algonquin
They’ll play in the Sweet 16 this Sunday, March 1st against #14 Malden Catholic. That’s 5:40 pm at New England Sports Center in Marlboro. (Look for tickets to be posted here.)
