I missed a significant impact from the high winds on Monday night. Downed trees and limbs, knocked down wires around town, and blocked off two roads. The issues impacted departments housed in the South Union Building at 21 Highland Street.
Power wasn’t restored to the building until last night. But, as of this morning, the building is still lacking working phones and internet. Southborough Youth & Family Services has posted an alternative phone number to reach staff.
A post by SYFS this morning states:
SYFS is reopened for in-person appointments though staff continue to work remotely as our phones and internet are still not working. Thanks for your patience. Please call 774-249-1485 with any questions.
On the morning of Tuesday, March 17th, the Southborough Police Dept posted about the downed wires and trees, including completely blocked roadways at Highland Street and John Matthews Road.
At a meeting last night, Rec Director Travis Farley informed the Recreation Commission that the power had just returned that evening. But, their phone lines were still down. (That is still true this morning.)
According to Farley, both poles and transformers had been taken down, plus lines were ripped off the building. He described staff as working remotely, including out of the Town House, and even out of Starbucks this week. They also visited Town fields this week.
