I just learned that the Interboro Community Band is playing its annual Spring Concert this weekend. This year’s theme is “Forces of Nature”.

The concert is themed “Monsters, Myths, and Extraterrestrials”. In ICB’s announcement, they note “There might even be a ‘guest appearance’ by Godzilla.”

ICB Forces of Nature concert flyerThe performance is Sunday, March 29th at 2:00 pm. As always, the community is invited to enjoy their show for free.

The concert is at Westborough High, 90 West Main St, Westborough.

According to the program, the band will play works that include “The Thunderer (March)” and “The Tempest”. But not all of nature inspired works are about frightening storms.

The setlist includes “Shimmering Sunshine” and culminates in a fun medley from The Wizard of Oz.

The band is made of over 65 members (mostly adults) from Southborough and neighboring towns. For the past ten years, it has been led by Music Director Matt Lefebvre. They describe themselves as “A fun, low-stress community band for people who have lives and jobs.”

ICB was originally founded by an Algonquin music director over 50 years ago. (Until the pandemic, the band had rehearsed and performed out of NSBORO schools. When it resumed rehearsals, it was forced to shift locations. Fortunately, they found space in a neighboring borough.)

I was told in recent yeas that the membership had surged, but many members were still from Southborough.

Free attendance is possible thanks to Mass Cultural Council grants through the Southborough and Westborough Cultural Arts Councils.
