Mass Dept of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) is continuing its partnership with the Southborough Library in 2026.
DCR has scheduled more monthly “Nature Story Times” for young kids. And they plan to hold two special programs for elementary school aged children.
All of these free programs require pre-registration.
Nature Story Time
The monthly Story Time for 2–5 year olds runs on Wednesday afternoons from 1:30 – 2:15 pm in the Children’s Room. Each event includes a special craft. (Click links below for more details and to register.)
- Nature Story Time: Winter Wildlife — January 21: What are the wild animals up to when it’s cold outside?
- Nature Story Time: Snow — February 11: Discover the science and wonder of snow
- Nature Story Time: The Big Life of a Busy Tree — March 11: Discover how important trees are.
- Nature Story Time: April Showers Bring May Flowers — April 15: Learn about how rain helps gardens grow and fills rivers with water.
- Nature Story Time: Crunch, Munch, and Flutter-by — May 6: Learn about who is crunching and munching in the tall grass.
Nature Fun for 6–10 Year Olds
DCR also has two special programs scheduled this spring for this older age group.
Fish Printing
Tuesday, March 24th from 4:30 – 5:30 pm
In this event, DCR will teach kids about ” common fish species in nearby lakes and streams”. Participants will create works of art using replica life size fish and washable paint. (Click here to register.)
Watershed Wildlife: Skull Science
Tuesday, March 24th from 4:30 – 5:30 pm
Participants will learn to study animal helps young learners classify animals as predator, prey, carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore by examining key skull features like eye sockets and teeth.Participants will create works of art using replica life size fish and washable paint.
