SFD pumper truck took a small off road detour last week

Last Thursday, a curious reader reached out after spotting a fire truck being towed from where it was “partially down in the gully” by the public safety complex driveway. I later followed up with Southborough’s Fire Chief for an explanation.

Chief Andrew Puntini responded on Friday:

Yesterday at about 0900hrs one of our Rescue-Pumpers was parked on the front ramp in the process of being serviced. In preparation of this the parking brake released and the truck rolled over the curb.

There were no injuries, the truck was returned to the pavement with the assistance of Ted’s Towing. The truck is in the process of being inspected, our response capabilities have not been impacted.

This morning he identified the truck as Engine 23. (See image right from past Facebook post.)

Looking back at past information on the SFD’s equipment, I found that the engine was purchased in 2017 and isn’t expected to need replacing for another 10 years.

So far, it sounds like the unexpected offroad adventure won’t change that.
