Heavy winds topple trees in Southborough

I went for a walk yesterday and practically had to cover my head to protect myself from all the small branches and other detritus falling from the trees overhead thanks to the strong winds. But branches and leaves weren’t the only thing falling from the sky, actual tress fell, too.

The Metrowest Daily News reports a 50-foot pine fell on top of a house on Winter Street yesterday:

Chris Fiore of Southborough heard the ground rumble, felt the earth shake, and said the next thing he knew a 50-foot pine tree had uprooted itself, crashing on top of neighbor Nancy Wheeler’s house.

“It almost sounded like someone was ripping out weeds,” he said yesterday afternoon as he stood with Wheeler on Winter Street and observed the colossal mess in her front yard.

Southborough saw wind gusts approaching 50 mph yesterday. You can read more in the Metrowest Daily News.
