Blood drive on Thursday, donors critically needed

St. Anne Church is hosting a blood drive on Thursday, and it couldn’t come at a better time. The Red Cross said today winter weather has severely hampered their blood collection efforts.

The Red Cross said in a press release today that approximately 500 units of blood are likely to be uncollected because of blood drive closures and low turnout at drives that were able to run.

The current weather and cancellations come at a challenging time to collect blood, because donations typically decline during the winter holiday season.

The blood drive at St. Anne’s runs from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday. You can schedule an appointment online, or just show up. Donors of all blood types are encouraged to attend, but Type O-negative blood donors are especially needed. St. Anne’s is located at 20 Boston Road (map).
