Reminder: Papers to run for Selectman due Sept 19 (for Nov 7th special election)

I know a lot of readers were flitting in and out of Town this summer. So, you may have missed important news on deadlines for the special election this fall.

Once again, here are the details. . .

If you are interested in serving on Southborough’s Board of Selectmen, Nomination papers are already available.

On November 7th, the Town is holding a special election to fill the vacant seat on the five person board.*

To run for the office, you need to return the forms with nomination by 43 registered voters by Tuesday, September 19th.

If you are considering a run, here are the details:

I don’t know about you, but I’m eager to see who’ll throw their hats in the ring this time around. Last spring, seven candidates filed papers for the office. Two pulled out prior to the withdrawal deadline. That made it a five person race for the two seats.

Let’s hope there are enough interested candidates to give voters a choice again this fall.

*In case you are unfamiliar with the reason that a seat is vacant: Selectman John Rooney resigned in early April. State election rules about the amount of notice for pulling and filing papers prohibited adding the seat to the ballot in time for the annual election in May.
