Southborough Emergency Management director responds to storm relief in Puerto Rico

Right: Lt. Neal Aspesi is taking his Emergency Management logistics knowledge to a community that is currently in much greater need. (2015 pic from Aspesi’s personal Facebook page)

Normally when I write about Neal Aspesi, it means the Director of Southborough Emergency Management has issued a warning related to weather forecasts in our town. This time the news about him and his efforts to help a community far from our Southborough’s borders.

The Southborough Fire Department posted the news on Facebook that Aspesi was deployed to Puerto Rico to assist with storm relief efforts:

Southborough Fire Department’s Lt. Neal Aspesi has been deployed to assist with Hurricane Irma relief efforts and Hurricane Maria preparations and relief in Puerto Rico. Lt. Aspesi was activated on September 8th as a Logistics Team Manager on the Massachusetts Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue Team, which is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s National Urban Search and Rescue Response System. We’re keeping Neal’s team and all those in the path of Hurricane Maria in our thoughts.

Kudos to Aspesi to stepping up in such a big way. I know our community will be pulling for him, the crew he’s working with, and everyone impacted by the storm.

Neal is a great guy and he does a lot for Southborough, BUT, this picture reminds me of Jack Nicholson in the movie The Shining when he breaks down the door with a fireman’s ax and says “Here’s Johnny!”
