High school seniors can take advantage of next week’s winter break to apply for a scholarship from the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber will award close to $13K in scholarships this spring. Southborough students are eligible to compete.

Unlike most scholarship opportunities, students don’t have to be continuing to college to receive assistance. Awards are also available to pay for career/trade tools or a certificate program.

The submission deadlines are January 11th. So, it’s a good idea to stop by the Guidance office at your high school this week to pick up a form. If you miss that chance, you can also reach out directly to Corridor Nine.

Here are the details:

The Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that a total of $12,900 will be given in scholarships to graduating high school students. Students must be a resident of Westborough, Northborough, Southborough or Shrewsbury to apply. Awards given will be granted on the basis of scholastic achievement, community and school involvement, work experience, financial need, appearance of application, and an interview.

There are scholarships available for students that fall into one of the following categories:

Academic Award

Students pursuing a post-secondary degree, i.e. Associates or Bachelor degree, immediately following high school graduation, should fill out the application form titled “Academic Award”.

Career/Trade Award

Students pursuing a certificate program in a career/trade or are immediately entering their career/trade following high school graduation should fill out the application form titled “Career/Trade Award”. (The awards granted in this category are designated for a certificate program or to purchase tools for the student’s career/trade.)

Applications have been sent to the local high schools. The entire criteria for these awards are listed on both application forms. The deadline to return the application is Thursday, January 11, 2018 and should be delivered or mailed to the Corridor Nine Chamber of Commerce, 30 Lyman Street, Westborough, MA 01581. Applications post-marked after the deadline date will not be considered. Semi-finalists will be notified about an interview. It is required for the student to attend an interview to be considered for an award.

If you have any questions, or would like to receive an application contact the Corridor Nine office at 508-836-4444.

*I’m using the 2016 photo because none of last year’s awardees were from Southborough. Hopefully, that won’t be true for 2018.
