Business Roundup: Big deals and a tax based move (Updated)

I’ve rounded up some stories about what’s happening in Southborough’s business community. There’s some good news from companies touting achievements. There’s also news of one business heading out of town and another merging with a bigger businesses based elsewhere.

Here are headlines about and press releases from businesses in town this spring. 

Cable Matters introduces a Dual 4K Video USB-C™ Docking Station for the MacBook Pro®June 6, 2019

Block Engineering Deploys PORTHOS Chemical Detection Systems for Japanese Olympics – June 5, 2019

Block Engineering, LLC announced today that its PORTHOS™ automated chemical detection system has been deployed with the Japan Disaster Management Agency at three locations in Japan. PORTHOS is a small, rugged, lightweight, unit that detects and identifies chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals within seconds at distances of 0.1 to 5 km. PORTHOS is currently used globally by Special Forces, government agencies, first responders, and disaster management teams to provide an early warning alert to dangerous airborne chemicals in situations requiring instantaneous and accurate detection. (Click here for full press release.)

Virtusa Partners with Legerity to Help Put U.S. Veterans on the Front Lines of Digital Process Automation – June 5, 2019

Hitachi and Virtusa Partner to Advance AI in Financial Services – June 3, 2019

Hitachi, Ltd. (TSE: 6501, Hitachi) and Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ GS: VRTU) a global provider of digital strategy, digital engineering, and IT outsourcing services that accelerates business outcomes for its clients, today announced a new partnership to capitalize on the rapidly growing adoption of AI in financial services. Worcester Business Journal – Three biotech firms plan moves following tax break approval – April 1, 2019

A tax-incentive agreement from the town helped, too, with Westborough agreeing to a tax-increment financing deal estimated to save [Olympus] $774,000 on its tax bills. The company plans to begin work in June on the new building, which will accommodate workers being shifted from Littleton and Southborough. (Click here for full article.)

Bruker Announces Acquisition of Scientific Software Provider ArxspanMarch 14, 2019

Bruker Corporation (Nasdaq: BRKR) today announced that it has acquired Arxspan LLC, a provider of cloud-based scientific software and workflow solutions, based in Southborough, Massachusetts. Arxspan is known for its line of cloud-based products for the management of research data under the Arxlab® brand. The company has a focus on serving pharmaceutical and biopharma customers. . .
