Public Safety offering to bring smiles to children with birthdays (or another special day)

Southborough emergency departments are offering to help make birthdays special for children disappointed that they can’t have parties with friends/extended family. It will be of special interest to anyone whose kids light up whenever they hear sirens or spot a police cruiser/fire truck.

Yesterday, the Southborough Police Department posted to Facebook:

We, like many area Police and Fire departments, appreciate all the support that we have received from our community. We are joining our brothers and sisters from area departments in being a part of this GREAT initiative of giving back to our community.

If you have a child at home who may have a birthday or other special day coming up, please [click here] and request that we drive by or stop by to help brighten their day. The Southborough Fire Department will also be joining us in this great program, and you’ll have the option of requesting a police cruiser; fire truck; or both. Please note the request must be made a minimum of 48 hours in advance, and will depend upon the availability of our officers/firefighters.

We are hoping to see some happy & smiling kids, and we hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy!

Sincerely,
Your friends at the SPD & SFD

As noted above, the dept needs at least 48 hours notice plus, as further clarified on the website:

Keep in mind that an emergency may arise and prevent us from participating. We will confirm with a call to the requestor just prior to the scheduled time that we will or will not be able to make it.

If they can make it, personnel won’t approach the home, but will “swing by and say Happy Birthday from the front of the house”.
