This week, two Southborough based businesses issued announcements. It prompted me to roundup some more business related news I missed this spring.

Here’s what a few of the businesses based in town have been up to lately.

NeurAegis Announces Publication of Preclinical Animal Data Supporting Calpain-2 as a Promising Therapeutic Target for Concussion – PRNewswire:

July 1, 2020 – NeurAegis, Inc., a neuropharmaceutical company pioneering the development of breakthrough treatments for neurological disorders, today announced the publication of a paper titled “Calpain-2 as a therapeutic target in repeated concussion-induced neuropathy and behavioral impairment” in Science Advances. The studies reported in the publication were performed in the laboratory of NeurAegis’ scientific founder, Dr. Michel Baudry, at Western University of Health Sciences, Pomona, CA, where the neurodegenerative role of the protease calpain-2 in repeated concussions was investigated. July 1, 2020 – A single voice for renewable liquid heating fuel, at a moment when it is most needed

NEFI, the trade association formerly known as the New England Fuel Institute, has changed its name to the National Energy & Fuels Institute. The new name formalizes the organization’s mission and longtime leadership role as an advocate for liquid heating fuel providers in Washington, DC and throughout the country.

“NEFI has served these mostly small Main Street family businesses since it was founded in 1942, and that will never change,” said President & CEO Sean Cota. “What has changed is the essential role they play in the clean-energy economy; and their need for a single, unified national voice to promote their interests.” (read more)

RxAdvance is the big little player in pharmacy benefits managementWorcester Business Journal:

Earlier this spring, the company announced it was expanding its office footprint in Southborough. Now, it’s getting coverage for its business growth.

June 17, 2020 – Southborough’s RxAdvance is a smaller player in an industry dominated by giants like CVS’ Caremark or Express Scripts.
It was RxAdvance, however, that landed a giant itself this spring: Amazon.

Meanwhile, coverage by the Boston Globe indicates that in April the pandemic did slow the hiring expansion that was announced by the company this spring:

RxAdvance, a pharmacy benefits manager, is sticking to ambitious hiring goals. Chief executive Ravi Ika said he plans to double his office space and staff in Southborough by mid-2021, adding roughly 250 jobs to the 200 people based there now. For now, Ika put the final steps in the hiring process on hold, until face-to-face meetings with candidates can be arranged; he has always met new hires in person in the past. But he said he may decide to move ahead with some offers this month anyway to avoid losing good candidates.

As of today, the company is recruiting for “customer service, case management, operations, claims processing, compliance and IT personnel at all levels.”
