  • Police Officer (full-time)The Southborough Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Full-Time Police Officer to fill a recent opening. Applications can be picked up in person at the Southborough Police Department, 32 Cordaville Road, Southborough, MA, or downloaded from www.southboroughpd.com. Application deadline is February 11, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. All applications can be sent certified registered mail or delivered in person in sealed envelopes to Chief of Police Kenneth Paulhus. Applicants having trouble securing key documents by the deadline should contact Lt. Ryan M. Newell.The department operates out of the new state-of-the-art Southborough Public Safety Facility. Features include a commercial level fitness center and training room. The department is Accredited through MPAC. Pay and benefits are highly competitive for the area per Local 167 contract. Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements: U.S. citizen; high school graduate (college degree preferred); at least 21 years of age; have a valid driver’s license; able to pass an intensive background check.Lateral Transfer or Full-time MPTC Police Academy training strongly preferred, but not required for ideal candidates. Cadets currently attending a full-time academy are encouraged to apply as well as past applicants.Applicants from the July 2020 hiring process will continue to be considered, and need not reapply.   • Public Health Nurse (full-time) The Southborough Board of Health is currently seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Public Health Nurse. Pay rate is $85,000 – $97,000 annually, with a generous paid leave and benefit program. The Nurse serves within the Town’s Board of Health office, working with the Public Health Director, Inspectors and staff to maintain and promote health and wellness initiatives for the Town. Focus areas include: disease surveillance, investigation and documentation per State code, participation in Emergency Preparedness & Response Planning, review of Day Camp documentation & Body Art Establishments, facilitates inquires relating to hygiene, immunizations and dispensing of medications, coordination and staffing of Immunization Clinics. Assists the Board of Health and staff with queries concerning epidemiology, food-borne illness outbreaks, viral disease outbreaks (i.e. COVID-19] [contact] tracing and methods to limit outbreaks and spread of communicable diseases. Must be familiar with [HIPAA] guidelines. Successful applicant must be currently registered with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing and hold a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing. 7-10 years of experience in a variety of medical, surgical and outpatient settings. Public health or community health experience preferred. MAVEN and MIIS certification preferred. If not at time of hire, must be trained and certified immediately after hire. *The job posting for officer is based on a vacancy, not a new position. (This week, the Board of Selectmen accepted the resignation of Probationary Police Officer Brandon Donahue.)

For the Public Health Nurse, the Town anticipates funding the difference between a full time nurse in and the outgoing part time nurse through the federal CARES Act. (The CARES Act is through the end of 2021.) Beyond that, the Board of Health’s FY22 proposed budget seeks long term increased staffing for the department.

It is very reassuring that this essential position has been posted. Hopefully, a qualified candidate will be selected. The job description refers to contract tracing. It is actually contact tracing as in the contacts one has been exposed to.
