That was the question before the Board of Selectmen on Tuesday night. Southborough’s only ladder truck is out of commission and the Fire Department has recommended the purchase of a new aerial truck to the tune of $900K. But how to pay for it?
The selectmen felt the chance of a $900K truck passing at Town Meeting would be “slim to none” given the current economy. Instead, they supported the Fire Department approaching the Zoning Board of Appeals and asking for mitigation funds. All this according to an article in the Metrowest Daily News.
I have to admit I have no idea what the ZBA mitigation fund is, where it comes from, and how it’s been used in the past. Anyone?
