Local authors help Neary students celebrate Book Week

It’s all about books this week at Neary, and that means it’s also all about authors. Three award-winning authors — along with one entertaining storyteller — will visit the school this week to talk with the fourth and fifth graders and read from their latest work. Here’s the lineup:

Monday: Author/illustrator Carlyn Beccia from Lynnfield, MA. Her books include The Raucous Royals and Who Put the B in Ballyhoo?.

Tuesday: Author Jacqueline Davies from Needham Heights. Her books include The Lemonade War, The Boy Who Drew Birds, and Tricking the Tallyman.

Wednesday: Author Cynthia Lord, who lives in coastal Maine. Her book Rules, about an older sister struggling to find balance in her life with an autistic younger brother, has been called “heartwarming” and “engaging.”

Thursday: Storyteller “Big Joe” Pagliuca from Brighton. Using puppets and props, “Big Joe” has a repertoire of over 500 stories.

Part of Book Week is a book fair that the folks at Barnes and Noble set up on-site at Neary.  Proceeds from the book fair help the Southborough Organization for Schools (SOS) fund book week.

New this year, the book fair also happens online through a special Barnes and Noble website. Purchases made through the website any time between today and Tuesday, March 23 will go toward the book fair total. To make your purchases online, visit www.bn.com/mybookfair and then enter Bookfair ID #10139194 on the checkout screen.
