Phaneuf says she plans to seek re-election

Selectwoman Bonnie Phaneuf has announced her intention to run for re-election this year. While acknowledging “errors” made in the past, Phaneuf told the Metrowest Daily News she wants to be around to help the town move forward.

“Unfortunately over the last two years, decisions have been made that the community hasn’t felt was in their best interests,” she said. “As an elected official who assisted in making those decisions, I think I should be allowed the opportunity to correct those errors.”

Phaneuf specifically referenced public criticism of the board’s handling of the internal investigation that was launched last April after eight town employees allegedly made disparaging remarks about Police Chief Jane Moran at an after-work gathering in September 2009.

It’s still early in the process — nomination papers only became available last week — but so far no one has pulled papers to run against Phaneuf. The deadline for filing nomination papers is March 21. The full political calendar is available on the town website.
