Southborough CERT/MRC offers disaster preparedness class

Natural disasters have been making headlines recently. While we’re not prone to tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis in this area, there are still plenty of other reasons to make disaster preparedness a priority. If it’s something you’re thinking about, consider this citizen preparedness class on Tuesday at the Senior Center.

The course is being offered by the Southborough Community Emergency Response Team and Medical Reserve Corps through the Southborough Recreation Department. Here are the details.

Are You Ready? In-Depth Guide to Citizen Preparedness $15/pp

Day: April 26, 2011
Time: 6pm to 9pm

Instructor: Sherri Lajeunesse, CMA, Southborough CERT/MRC Assistance Coordinator/Events Manager

This course is designed to help the citizens of this nation learn how to protect themselves and their families against all types of hazards. Every class participants will receive a free of the guide. This guide can be used as a reference source or as a step-by-step manual.

The focus of the content is on how to develop, practice, and maintain emergency plans that reflect what must be done before, during, and after a disaster to protect people and their property. Also included is information on how to assemble a disaster supplies kit that contains the food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity for individuals and their families to survive.

All participants will receive a “Certificate of Participation” from the course instructor. If you wish to receive any college or continuing education credit for this course and/or a Certificate from FEMA for Successful Completion and Competency of this course you will be required to take a 50 question final exam on the night of the class. The answer sheet you complete will be submitted to FEMA for grading and participants will then receive either a passing certificate or failure letter directly from FEMA. This will be explained in more detail on the night of class for all those interested.
