Project Friend: Bringing together Big and Little Friends

Southborough Youth and Family Services is preparing for another season of Project Friend. The mentoring program matches Big and Little Friends.

Organizers are encouraging applicants for mentors and for being mentored.

They are seeking 7th-12th graders who want to be positive role models. The program allows them to fulfill community service hours while having fun with younger kids.

They are also seeking families with K- 5th graders who would benefit from the friendship:

This program is a great experience for “Little Friends” as it provides opportunity for socialization, increased self-esteem, and the much needed opportunity to be a kid.

Friends will meet weekly:

  • K-1st graders paired with 7th- 8th graders meet Thursday afternoons from 3:15 – 4:15 pm at Mary Finn School
  • High school students mentor students in 2nd-5th grade on Thursday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the Southborough Arts Center

Friends are matched up based on their expressed interests, personality, and gender. You can commit to either a full year (24 weeks) or half year (12 weeks in the fall or spring).

Anyone interested in either the full year or fall program needs to register by October 16th.
