Listen and Say it with L.O.V.E.

SYFS is trying to help residents improve their communication with loved ones and others.

Above: SYFS’ is offering workshops to help residents better communicate with L.O.V.E.

Southborough Youth and Family Services is promoting a set of workshops that focus on improving communications. New flyers promote that empathetic communication skills aren’t just for family members. It can also apply to friends and even co-workers.

Listen with LOVEAs I’ve previously written, SYFS offers Listen with L.O.V.E. workshops on “The Art of Communication in Relationships”. L.O.V.E. stands for Listening, Offering, Validating, and Empathizing. The 2-hour workshops help participants learn:

how to truly support someone, listen in a way that encourages them to keep talking, and well-intentioned communication habits to avoid.

SYFS is holding the workshops in-person at 21 Highland Street. The first upcoming option is Monday, December 5th at 6:30 pm with more opportunities in January and February. Learn more or register here.

Following up on listening skills, SYFS is now also offering Say it with L.O.V.E.. This workshop:

Say it with Lovelpicks up where Listen with L.O.V.E. left off. In this workshop we build on the listening skills we learned in the previous workshop and explore ways to further positive communication. Specifically, we will find out how to get our own needs met while honoring our relationships with others. We will talk about the different kinds of communication styles people use, how to frame our concerns and requests to loved ones in ways they will best respond to, and how to negotiate our needs in ways that make everyone satisfied.

SYFS clarifies that while they encourage participation in both, you don’t need to have taken the “Listen” workshop to sign up for “Say it”.
The first available option for the new workshop is Wednesday, December 7th at 6:30 pm with more opportunities in January and February. Click here to learn more or register.

The workshops are just two of the services and resources promoted in SYFS’ November bulletin. This month’s bulletin covers additional workshops and programs, plus ways to get involved in advanced planning for Mental Health Awareness month.
