The Southborough Senior Center shared photos and a recap from a special event they held last week. They enjoyed a visit and presentation by a familiar face to those who have watched Boston news over the past four decades.

Southborough Senior was lucky enough to host Harvey Leonard, WCVB Channel 5’s Chief Meteorologist emeritus for a very informative presentation on Climate Change, Simple, Serious, Solvable. . .

We were thrilled to have Harvey come. The presentation was so well attended, close to 80 people who really enjoyed getting to know Harvey and were happy to ask many many questions.

Below are pics from the event:

During his 50 year career in meteorology, Leonard was Chief Meterologist at Channel 7 for 20 years, followed by another 20 working at Channel 5, including 13 years as the StormTeam 5 Chief Meterologist. Last May he retired and transitioned into the role of emeritus. According to WCVB’s website:

In this new position, Harvey continues to serve the community with important information as a periodic contributor to StormTeam 5 coverage and engage in community speaking appearances.

The website shares a long bio of Leonard’s credits, including:

Widely regarded as The Dean of Boston Meteorologists, Harvey has received numerous awards throughout his luminous career. . .

He is credited as the first meteorologist to correctly predict the impact and intensity of the infamous Blizzard of ’78. . .

He has been a mentor to numerous aspiring meteorologists and today well over a dozen of his protégé serve as on-air meteorologists in markets across the country.

The event was one of the many popular events put on by the Senior Center throughout the year. (You can view their March/April newsletter here.)

The Senior Center’s events tend to require pre-registration and fill up quickly. If you aren’t on their newsletter mailing list and want to be in time to learn about events coming up in May and June, call the center at 508-229-4453.
