Here are my highlights from Algonquin varsity sports competitions last week and the schedule for this week.
Gonk Baseball added two more wins to what is now a 10-3 record. They edged up to #5 in the MIAA Division 2 Power Rankings.
Softball added another loss, making their record 4-7 and sliding three more slots in the Division 1 rankings to #45.
In Lacrosse, the Boys ended their big winning streak with two more losses. They are now at 11-3 and slipped from #10 to #12 in the D2 rankings. The Girls added a win and loss. They’re at 5-9 and down one rank at #22.
In Rugby, the Boys added beat Blue Hills Regional Technical School. That’s four straight wins in their 4-1 season. The Girls beat Needham, their second win of the season following three losses.
In Tennis, the Boys and Girls each added a loss to Shrewsbury and win over Nashoba. Their records are now 7-5 and 6-6.
Boys Volleyball also had an uneven week with a win over Nashoba and loss to Ayer-Shirley. They are now 6-6. They fell four spots in the D1 rankings to #34.

This Saturday, the track & field teams will host and compete in the District E Division 1 Central Mass Championships.
Girls Golf* lost to Wellesley on Thursday. This week, they’ll be playing four schools as they head towards the end of their regular season.
