Select Board Office Hour Tonight

Above: Do you have a topic you’d like to address with Select Board members in an informal setting? (images cropped from flyer)

Tonight, community members are welcome to drop into the Town House this evening to chat with two members of the Select Board.

The board is holding Office hours (really an hour) to discuss any questions, concerns or interests.

Select Board hoursThis session is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14th, 6:00 – 7:00 pm. It will be hosted by members Marguerite Landry and Al Hamilton.

In past promotions, the board has pitched the hours as a way to bring to speak to members in an informal setting. The office hours aren’t a public meeting (so they won’t be recorded or have minutes). But members often briefly recap community concerns/questions raised during office hours as part of their “Members Updates” in subsequent board meetings.

The Office Hours discussions may take place in front of other members of the public waiting for their turn to participate. If you have a more sensitive topic to broach for which you would prefer greater privacy, you can always contact members individually to talk.

Click here for the page that links to the list of members of boards & committees with their email addresses. (Although, it will need to be updated based on yesterday’s election.)

Conversely, if you’d prefer to make a “public comment” at a future meeting, the next opportunity appears to be scheduled for Tuesday, May 20th. (Stay tuned for the time and agenda.) But, unless the topic is on the agenda, there is no back and forth allowed with Select Board members when you take that route.

[Editor’s Note: Sorry for the short notice on tonight’s hour. I haven’t done a great job keeping track of when these hours are being offered over the past year. I’m assuming the board will soon work on a new schedule, and I’ll try to include those dates in the calendar and future “Events this week” posts.]

One thing the entire board needs to look at is our streets….or what’s left of them. They are nothing but a mess of patched potholes and trenches. DPW budgeted $1,000,000 for streets this next fiscal year. I think the DPW should ask for at least $2,000,000 next year so real paving can be done. Our main roads are a mess, and the side streets ain’t much better
