Since I posted on Thursday, two more Algonquin varsity teams dropped out of the MIAA post-season playoffs. Two others prevailed in their first rounds with more action scheduled for this week.
But first, a look at the Titan’s Outdoor Track teams’ outstanding accomplishments at state competitions last week.
In the Division 2 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the Boys came in 3rd place as a team and the Girls 9th.
The biggest winner was senior Miles Lipka who earned a 1st place for the Men’s High Jump and scored 2nd place in both the Javelin throw and the 400 meter 36″ hurdles. Leading up to the championships, the Southborough resident made the news for his all around track and field accomplishments this season. You can read and watch WCVB Channel 5 news’ interview with here and watch it below:
Lipka wasn’t the only Titan medalist at the state championship. For the Boys team, senior Benoit Skilton won the Pole Vault, and for the Girls team, junior Jillian Belniak came in 2nd place for the 400 meter 30″ hurdles.
Team members also competed in the D2 Pentathlons. Junior Anthony Bessard came in an impressive 3rd place overall for the Men’s Pentathlon.
For the Women’s Pentathlon, Algonquin’s top finisher was a much lower 9th place by junior Niamh O’Sullivan, but her top ten rank was aided by a 3rd place finish in the event’s Long Jump.

As for ARHS varsity’s success in playoffs. . .
In Boys Lacrosse’s Division 2 Round of 32, 11th seed Titans beat #22 Methuen on Wednesday. The Telegram recapped the 9-4 win:
Declan Mulkerin amassed three goals and two assists, and Luke Nofsinger (2 assists), Garrett Willworth (1 assist) and Paulo Knapp all scored twice to power the host No. 11 Titans (16-3) in a Division 2 first round matchup. . . Ben Yosca dished out three assists for Algonquin.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, June 3rd), the Boys will head to 6th seed Reading to play in the Sweet 16. That game will start at 6:00 pm.
Last week, the team celebrated on Instagram three players that were recognized by USA Lacrosse: Nathan Meschisen (All – American), Vinny Vitorino (All – Academic), and Ryan Roman (Bob Scott Award):

On Thursday, the 5th seed Titans Boys Rugby team bested #4 Catholic Memorial 40-47 in the D2 opening Round of 8. They advance to the semifinals where they’ll have to take on top seed Hanover.
Last year, Hanover took them out at the Round of 8, in a 62-7 drubbing. This spring, the Hanover beat Gonk again (14-38) in the season opener. The Titans will be hoping they’ve learned enough lessons in the season where they went on to beat all but one of the other teams they’ve faced. The high stakes rematch is set for this Friday, June 6th at 5:00 pm.
Now for the teams that won’t be moving on. . .
Yesterday afternoon, #12 Gonk Baseball was knocked out of the D2 playoffs at the Round of 32 in a 1-3 upset by #21 Woburn. The Telegram recapped:
The No. 21 Tanners (13-8) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to defeat the No. 12 Titans (15-6) . . . Algonquin’s Jameson Logan doubled in Thomas Boudreau in the fifth, while Preston Cote stuck out 12.

Less surprising were the losses by Girls Lacrosse and Boys Volleyball to upper seed foes. #22 Girls LAX lost their Round of 32 to #11 Scituate 10-8. #38 Volleyball fell out in the Preliminary Round of the Division 1 playoffs. They lost 1-3 to #27 Taunton.
Last week, I shared that ARHS Tennis teams were already out of the playoffs. But, I neglected to share recent coverage of one of the teams’ members for her overall accomplishments in varsity sports.
The Community Advocated interviewed Southborough resident, senior Emmy Beauchesne, a three sport athlete who has earned 12 varsity letters over her Algonquin career. According to the story, she has been captain of the cross-country, ski, and tennis teams. You can read about that here.
