On a rainy Saturday that required moving the ceremony indoors, Algonquin Regional High School celebrated the graduating Class of 2025. Here are some highlights from that ceremony and of graduates’ self-reported future plans.

On May 31st, Northborough-Southborough school held its ceremony for 291 graduating seniors.

Speeches included ones by Superintendent Gregory Martineau, Class Nathanael Meschisen, and Class Essayists Nicholas Klein and Kyle Miller.

Community Advocate covered the event with a highlight from the Essayists’ speech about their experience over their time at Algonquin:

“Through this, we became versions of ourselves that we didn’t think were possible. We had people who never wavered — our administrators, our teachers, our families, and every other member of the Algonquin community who helped us stand a little bit taller,” said Miller.

“To our teachers, sorry you had to deal with us. You brought energy when nobody in class had their Starbucks yet,” added Klein. “You believed in us before we believed in ourselves.”

You can read more and see their photo highlights here. Below is the video from Northborough Cable:

For The Harbinger’s Senior Issue, the school paper published 15 “Reflections” essays by seniors. You can read some of them on the website here.1

The printed issue also reported on students’ plans for next year. Of those who responded, 13 noted they would head straight to working (including one starting a business). Three are taking a “Gap Year”, two planned to attend a trade school, and one will be in a CAP program. 275 shared their plans to attend college.

As usual, our home state was by far the most common destination reported with 10 of the 17 most popular schools listed. Another significant share of the grads will attend states that share a border. But there are also a good number traveling much further.

Here are geographic highlights from the 215 most commonly self-reported plans in the Senior Issue:

  • 112 plan to stay in state, including attending these colleges/universities:
    • UMass Amherst – 24
    • UMass Lowell – 10
    • Bentley University – 7
    • Boston College – 5
    • Assumption University – 5
  • 29 are Connecticut bound (15 of those for UConn and 5 for Fairfield University)
  • 24 will relocate to New York (6 of those for Syracuse)
  • 19 will dip down to Rhode Island (with 5 at URI)
  • 12 will shoot up to New Hampshire (8 of those for UNH)
  • 10 will head down to South Carolina (6 to College of Charleston)
  • 9 will go west to Indiana (6 to Purdue University)

Many of the seniors posted their post graduate plans with photos to Instagram here.

This coming Saturday, June 7th, is the next big graduation day for Southborough. Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School’s ceremony is at 11:00 am in the DCU Center. And St. Mark’s School, the private boarding school in Southborough, will hold its Prize Day ceremony at 10:30 am.

As for the NSBORO Schools students who aren’t graduating this year, the last day of the school year is two weeks from today on June 17th.

  1. As of this morning, only three were available online. But, that’s two more than yesterday morning. And while a slew that weren’t available immediately after last year’s graduation they were subsequently uploaded at some point. So you can expect more reflections to be uploaded here in the future.)
