Algonquin varsity teams’ bids for state glory came to an end last week when the last two standing fell out of their playoffs.
In Tuesday’s Boys Lacrosse Division 2 Sweet 16, #11 ARHS challenged #6 Reading. According to the Telegram, Declan Mulkerin had two goals and an assist, Ben Yosca two assists, and Garrett Willworth, Luke Nofsinger and Beckett Forrester each also scored. But they lost 6-13.
On Friday, Boys Rugby was trounced by top seed Hanover in the semi-finals 64-5. It was the second year running that Hanover booted them from the playoffs. The victors posted a video of the game to YouTube here. The media didn’t write up any highlights, but the Boston Globe did publish two dramatic action shots from the game (by ARHS student Laura White) here.
Six members of the Boys and Girls Outdoor Track teams competed at the MIAA’s state track & field Meet of Champions. Junior Niamh O’Sulivan had the Titans’ best result coming in 7th place for the Women’s High Jump. (You can see the full results here.)
Neither team has any members listed as competing in this week’s MSTCA and Central Mass Championships. But they may be sending athletes to this Saturday’s New England Championships.
