Above: It literally took me two minutes to verify the census I got in the mail, snap a pic, and email it to the Town Clerk. It wouldn’t take much longer to fill in a blank one or submit an application for mail-in ballots for 2026 elections. (photo by Beth Melo)
The “Annual Street Listing” form was mailed to Southborough residents earlier this month.. (It’s also referred to by officials as the Town Census.) Completed forms are requested back within 10 days and officially due back by January 31st.
While I’m sharing that reminder, I’m sharing info on this year’s election calendar and voting by mail.
The Town’s Census
Under Mass state law, each town is required to update its street listing of residents each year. All that’s required by you is to review the information, make any necessary corrections, sign, and return it to the Southborough Town Clerk’s office. (Sign and return the form even if no corrections are required.)
For residents who don’t respond, the Town will have to spend on follow up mailings. Failure to respond can also eventually lead to inactive voter registration status (requiring more work by residents to verify their status before elections). (Plus, the more residents that are listed in the census, the better for the Town when it seeks state grants.)
To make it easy to respond, the Town Clerk invites residents to use their pones to snap and email in a pic of the form. Of course, snail mail is still also allowed, as is dropping it off. Options are:
- Scan it and email the scan to census@southboroughma.com
- Place your signed street list in the grey mailbox outside the Town House or in the drop box inside the Town Clerk office during regular hours.
- Mail the signed form to Town Clerk, 17 Common St. Southborough, MA 01772
If you need another copy of your census, or have questions, you can click here to download a blank form or follow up with the Town Clerk’s Office at (508) 485-0710 x 3005.
Voting in 2026 Elections
The Town Clerk’s website includes a link for a form that allows voters to select all or which elections they would like to receive mail-in ballots for this year.
For Southborough voters, those elections are:
- Annual Town Election — Tuesday, May 12th (for elected positions in Southborough’s Town government and the regional high schools)1
- State Primary — Tuesday, September 1st (political parties’ elections to select nominated candidates to run in the general election for state-wide and regional offices)
- State Election — Tuesday, November 3rd (for elected state-wide and regional offices)
In person voting on the day of all three of those elections will take place in the Trottier Middle School gym (49 Parkerville Rd) from 6:30 am – 8:00 pm.
For the mail-in ballot form or more details on those elections, including registration deadlines, click here.
- If you’re considering running for one of the offices in this year’s Town Election, you’ll also want to pay attention to the dates for pulling and filing papers. The filing window opens on February 13th and closes on March 24th. Read more, including which positions will be on this year’s ballot, here.
