I’ve posted a few stories covering events at the Southborough History & Arts Center (SHAC) recently opened by the Southborough Historical Society (SHS). But so far, those have focused on the Arts part of the venue name.

A week from Sunday, the center will host an “Illustrated Talk and Book Signing” focused on Southborough’s history.

The first author talk at the center will feature SHS President Michael Weishan. He’ll discuss his book “Lost Southborough”.

The event page promotes:

During an engaging one-hour illustrated talk, you’ll learn about the 300-year evolution of our town, including its transformation from a rural farming community to a thriving suburban center. Discover how industry, transportation, and changing architecture shaped the lives of Southborough residents, and explore rare photographs, maps, and stories that bring our shared history vividly to life. A book signing will follow the presentation

The talk will take place Sunday, February 22nd from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. The event is free to members and $5 per person for non-members. Tickets should be pre-purchased, and seats are limited.  Click here for the registration page.

On Amazon, the book is described as using 120 images to illustrate “a visual roadmap through the rich history of the town of Southborough, Massachusetts.” The first line of the Introduction reads:

With a very few exceptions, everything (and alas, everyone) depicted in this book has long ago disappeared.

You can find more details on the book, including excerpts, here.

The talk will be held at SHAC in the “Stair Gallery”, 42 Central St (Fayville Hall). A promo for the event reminds that when you visit the center for the talk, you can also view the art exhibit in the Long Gallery featuring four Southborough artists. That is still on display through March 7th.
