SPD arrests man on drug charges

The Southborough Police Department issued another press release about an arrest this week. This time, instead of driving on Route 9, the suspect was described as “walking in traffic” when an officer approached him.

According to the press release, the man is accused of having an active arrest warrant out on him for a probation violation, and allegedly was carrying illegal drugs and evidence of drug transactions.

Here is the SPD’s (redacted) statement:

Southborough Police Arrest Reading Man on Drug Charges After He Was Found Walking in Traffic

SOUTHBOROUGH — The Southborough Police Department arrested a Reading man on drug charges after he was found walking in traffic Tuesday morning.

At about 7:55 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, several motorists called 911 to report a man walking on Turnpike Road.

Patrolman Luke Soccorso responded to the scene and spotted a man wearing an orange sweatshirt and a backpack walking eastbound on Turnpike Road near the intersection with Deerfoot Road.

The man was later identified as [the suspect], AGE 30, of READING.

[The suspect] told police that he was trying to get to Boston. Patrolman Soccorso asked him if he wanted a ride to the commuter rail station to get to Boston and he accepted.

Patrolman Soccorso told [the suspect] that he would have to pat him down before getting into his cruiser to ensure he was not carrying any weapons. [the suspect] agreed, put down his backpack and opened it for inspection. He stepped back and allowed the officer to pat him down, and no weapons were found.

Sgt. Jeffrey Norton arrived on the scene and Patrolman Soccorso looked inside [the suspect’s] backpack. Patrolman Soccorso found a small plastic bag containing a clear rock-like substance consistent with crystal methamphetamine. [the suspect] denied ownership of the bag.

Responding officers then learned that [the suspect] was wanted on an active arrest warrant of Quincy District Court for a probation violation.

[The suspect] was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Southborough Police Department for booking.

While logging [the suspect]’s property during booking, police found another small plastic bag containing a clear rock-like substance, a scale, a piece of paper containing notes detailing suspected drug transactions, and a $50 bill. The items were photographed and logged into evidence.

[The suspect] was charged with Drug Possession to Distribute Class B, a felony.

He was transported to Westborough District Court for arraignment later Tuesday morning.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
