Southborough’s “Dull Men’s Club” shared news and photos from their annual summertime celebration. The invitation was extended to members of area DMCs.

The story is a good opportunity to remind senior men about the weekly drop-in social group hosted by the Southborough Senior Center.

New members are encouraged to join them for their casual meetings at 10:00 am on Friday mornings (with a few exceptions for holidays, etc).

A couple years ago, organizer Bill Harrington quipped to me that members “make a concerted effort to solve all the world’s problems which they generally do!” He continued:

There’s stories about past lives (before retiring), some generally sound advice, catching up on town doings, occasional speakers and always a “good” joke or two. It all makes for the fastest hour of the week. If all this might appeal to you prepare to share your dullness and join them most any Friday morning.

Below is the recap Harrington shared this week of the annual BBQ the group hosted last week:

A tradition that began several years ago by the Southborough Dull Men’s Club was held on Wednesday, August 13 when the Southborough Dull Men’s Club again hosted the Annual BBQ for the area Clubs. The day was hot but
camaradarie was even warmer.

Sixty-five members from 6 Clubs including: Southborough, Pembroke, Northborough, Northbridge, Holliston, and Westborough all gathered on the front lawn of the Southborough Senior Center where they were served hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken skillfully grilled and served hot off the grills by Southborough members. The meal also included potato salad, tossed salad and all the fixin’s. The meal was topped off by plenty of watermelon slices.

There was lots of good conversations by the members and many of the world’s problems were summarily solved. Plenty of friendly competition was to be had at the Corn-HoleToss court. The festivities ended with a raffle in which several gift cards and DMC hats were raffled off. A good time was had by all and with the promise to do it all again next summer.
