Here are my highlights from Algonquin varsity sports competitions last week and the schedule for this week.
ARHS Boys Golf, which opened strong the week prior, had a disappointing second week. The team lost to both Auburn and Westborough, updating their record to 2-2.
Other Titans varsity teams that kicked off their season last week, didn’t fare better. The best performing teams either earned a tie, or earned a win to match each loss.
Girls Volleyball won their season opener at home 3-0 over Hudson last Wednesday, but followed that with a 3-1 loss to Grafton on Friday.
In reverse order, Field Hockey lost its season opener 4-0 at Concord-Carlisle on Wednesday, but followed up with a 1-0 win over Auburn in its home opener on Friday.
Boys Soccer tied its season opener at home against St. John’s last Thursday, 1-1.
Girls Soccer had the toughest start. The team is 0-2-0 after losing the home opener to Mansfield 5-1 on Tuesday, and its first away game to Acton-Boxborough 4-0 on Thursday.
Titans Football will hope to have a stronger season kickoff this Friday when they travel to Nashoba.
