SPD continues to highlight OUI arrests: 3 more last weekend

This afternoon, the Southborough Police Department issued more news about arrests made for Operating Under the Influence on Southborough roads. The press release emphasized that two of the drivers were alleged “repeat offenders”. In one of the incidents, the driver is additionally charged with child endangerment.

Southborough Police Arrest Three Impaired Drivers Over Weekend, Including Two Repeat Offenders

SOUTHBOROUGH — Chief Ryan Newell reports that the Southborough Police Department arrested three individuals on charges of operating under the influence over the weekend, including two repeat offenders and one case involving child endangerment.

On Saturday, Sept. 6, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Southborough Police were notified to be on the lookout for a white Honda Accord traveling at a high rate of speed from Framingham into Southborough.

Officer Riley Brown was conducting a targeted patrol as part of a summer impaired driving traffic grant when he observed a white Honda Accord driving 65 mph in a 50-mph zone on Middle Road. Officer Brown stopped a short time later.

While speaking to the driver, identified as [a 39 yr old Marlborough resident] officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him. Following an on-scene investigation, he was arrested for Operating Under the Influence.

Officers also observed a young child sleeping in the back of the vehicle without a car seat. Officers located a partially consumed bottle of strawberry daiquiri during a search.

[The driver] was arrested and charged with:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (Second Offense)
  • Child Endangerment While Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Speeding
  • Possession of an Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle

On Saturday, Sept. 6, at approximately 10 p.m., Officer Panajoti Samarxhi responded to a two-vehicle crash in the area of 300 Turnpike Road.

While speaking to one of the drivers, identified as [a 53 yr old Hudson resident] officers detected a strong odor of alcohol. Following an on-scene investigation, he was arrested for Operating Under the Influence.

One of the occupants of the other vehicle was transported to the hospital by a Southborough Fire ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

[The driver] was arrested and charged with:

  • Operating Under the Influence of Liquor (Second Offense)
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Failure to Stop/Yield

On Sunday, Sept. 27, at approximately 2:08 a.m., Officer Theodore Davis was parked in the area of Boston Road and Framingham Road when he observed a vehicle, which was closely following behind another car, drifting out of the lane. 

Officer Davis conducted a motor vehicle stop and identified the driver as a 22-YEAR-OLD MALE, of MARLBOROUGH. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from him. Following an on-scene investigation, he was arrested for Operating Under the Influence and Marked Lanes Violation.

“I am proud of the work our officers did in removing these dangerous drivers from the road,” said Chief Newell. “Operating under the influence puts lives at risk, and doing so with a child in the car is especially troubling. Our department will continue to be vigilant in keeping our community safe.”

All three defendants will be arraigned in Westborough District Court on Monday.
